The John Hoey Orchestra




The John Hoey Orchestra is a professional horn band that covers corporate events, private parties, weddings, concerts, nightclubs, and bars. The band plays authentic swing from the 1930', 40's, and 50s, including the sounds of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Count Basie. The John Hoey Orchestra offers special tributes to Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, and Louis Prima/Keely Smith. The band also plays pure funk, R&B, and dance music from the 60's and 70's. This music features the sounds of Motown, Chicago, Tower of Power, and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

There are 11 members in the band (including a five man horn section) and the sound is HIP. The band has been together since 1993, is based in Philadelphia, and plays up and down the east coast. Some of the venues the band has entertained in include, the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, the Sportsman's Club in Washington D.C., the Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island, the New Leaf Cafe in Manhattan, NY, Zanzibar Blue in both Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, Delaware, the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Delaware, the Hershey Convention Center in Hershey, PA, the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center in Upper Darby, PA, and the Mainstage Center for the Arts in Blackwood, NJ.

Some of our clients include, The Philadelphia Orchestra, CSX Railroad, CVS Pharmacies, The Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater, Wyndham Hotels, and every May, the band travels to Aruba for the Aruba Wine, Art, and Jazz Festival. In 1998, the band was selected to be the main entertainment at the inaugural ball for Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Ridge.

John is a former drummer with the Glenn Miller and Russ Morgan Orchestras and he has performed with many national artists including The Supremes, The Four Aces, Denis DiBlasio, Larry Storch, Pete Barbutti, Donna Cialinni, Peter Marshall, and the Maynard Ferguson Alumni Band.
